REVOLUTIONARY ADVOCACY – Law Union of Ontario 50th Anniversary Conference

On Friday evening, keynote speakers Irina Cerić and Harsha Walia will speak on the theme of “Revolutionary Advocacy,” following a short 50th Avnniversary retrospective.

Saturday will be headlined by a session on Government Accountability, with a focus on issues including Canada’s international arms policies and Indigenous issues at home. Other panel topics include: Policing, Climate Justice, Labour, Housing, Migrant workers, Voting rights, and more.

During the Saturday afternoon there will be an opportunities for networking, guided conversation circles, complimentary lunch and refreshments, and a student session welcoming students from across Ontario’s law schools to talk about social justice and revolutionary advocacy.

All are welcome, including legal professionals, students, and members of the communitiy who have an interest in social justice and human rights.

CPD accreditation

Lawyers and paralegals can get 100% of their EDI and Professionalism hours during the conference, and up to seven total CPD hours. Details will be included in the conference program sent to all registrants.

Accessibility

We are committed to making the conference barrier-free, starting with the registration fee. Legal professionals who may be getting CPD credits for attending the conference and who can afford the full registration fee should pay the full registration fee; for everyone else, just pay what you can and what you think is fair in your circumstances. For students and unwaged registrations, we are absorbing the Eventbrite fees.

The venues are wheelchair accessible and captioning will be displayed for all panels. If you have any other accessibility requirements, we will make our best effort to accommodate, just let us know!

Health and safety precautions

With the resurgence of COVID, we encourage all attendees to mask and test before attending. If you have symptoms or test positive, please stay home and we will issue a full refund. We will have masks and tests available on site. Let’s keep each other safe!
